Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor in Magic Kingdom‘s Tomorrowland requires quite a bit of audience participation.
You are invited into the Laugh Floor to help fill up a canister with laughs. As monsters tell their jokes, they rely on audience members to help with the bit and generate more laughs. One of the biggest (or worst) honors, depending on who you ask, is to be “That Guy” during a show. If you have ever wanted to be “That Guy” or maybe have wanted to avoid the distinction, we are sharing our best tips to get picked!
The “That Guy” bit occurs throughout the entire show. The audience member who gets picked with this distinction pretty much becomes the punchline for the show and typically generates a lot of audience laughs. This means that if you are picked, it is best to be a good sport and go along with it, as you will be shown on screen multiple times.
While getting picked is not an exact science, the following tips usually help you increase your chances of becoming “That Guy.”

Wear Something Bright or Silly
If you wear something that makes you stand out from the crowd, there is a chance that the person in the camera room who picks who is “That Guy” may be able to spot you more easily. For example, around the holiday season, people who wear Santa Claus hats to the park tend to have a greater chance of being called on. We have also seen people get picked who are sitting next to someone wearing something different, like a child in a princess dress.
Act Like You Don’t Want to Be There
If you act embarrassed to be at the show or even shy, you can draw a lot of laughs, which could result in you becoming “That Guy.”
While napping on attractions like the Carousel of Progress or the American Adventure have become popular as they offer a dark and air-conditioned place to rest, Laugh Floor is a live show, which means if you accidently doze off, there is a good chance you can get called out for it!
Get There Early and Sit Towards the Front
If you want to be selected as “That Guy,” it can help you to sit closer to the front and near the end of a row so the camera can easily pan to you. You don’t get assigned a row, so simply make your way toward the rows near the front of the screen. This is easier to do if you get to the theater early and are toward the front before the doors to the theater open. The doors nearest the right-hand side will be the doors that lead you closest to the front.
While this might not guarantee that you will be selected, it can really help your chances! For more ride and attraction tips, follow the Disney Food Blog!

My husband was “that guy” three times. He loved being that guy”. I was chosen twice to interact with Buddy Boyle. When he told me to tell my. number to the audience, and he would close his eyes so he would not hear my answer, I held up three fingers instead of saying my answer. The audience loved it! Got a lot of laughs.
We went for Halloween. I was wearing a 3x orange pumpkin shirt. Every other job was a that guy joke it was amazing and funny as beans. Love it
I always wear bright Hawaiin shirts as well as a white Panama Hat. I have been picked multiple time s at different shows. Coming from Massachusetts during the coldest time of the year, I want to be bright and feel like I am enjoying my vacation. I have always found the Disney crew to be friendly and helpful and have also gone out of their way to assist me
Haha I got picked as the dance guy. Didn’t look bright or special but we did sit in the second row. The guy that got picked on was actually in the same row so maybe row 2 is the key ?♂️
I was “That Guy” many years ago. Naturally, it was a trip that was just my wife and myself, our son did not join us so he never got to see it. I still have the sticker.
I got picked last fall. It took me a second to realize it was even me! A young boy next to me loved it and was thrilled when I gave him the stickers the cast member gave me. Was the highlight of the day.
Now I know why I was chosen! I was wearing my Tinkerbell Christmas hat!!
I’ve been that guy. I didn’t do anything to stand out and was still that guy. I wasn’t really even paying attention when I was first shown. Like I want looking at the screen. So I didn’t know what was going on when my wife nudged me. I looked very confused. I was a good sport but I’m no actor so it wasn’t the best show. It was the first time I’ve been to see the show. So I can imagine if you’ve seen it before you can be a better that guy than me. I was sitting towards the front right, like 4 5 road back closer to the middle.
We met my in-laws at Magic Kingdom and went to the Laugh Floor. Whilst queuing my father-in-law grumbled that he always gets picked for a part in this show. My husband then moaned saying that no, actually he was the one who always gets picked in the show. That day, they both got picked!
