When you travel to Disney World, you have to consider something really important: how are you getting there?
Although some folks drive (especially if they live close to the Orlando area), most people who visit Disney World fly into Orlando International Airport. If you’ve visited Disney World multiple times, you’ve probably become pretty familiar with that airport. However, things could be changing soon at Orlando International Airport because, according to The Orlando Business Journal, the airport just named a new CEO.
The Great Orlando Aviation Authority has named Lance Lyttle as its new CEO at its March 19th board meeting. The authority oversees both Orlando International Airport and Orlando Executive Airport. Lyttle is currently managing the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
GOAA Chair Tim Weisheyer said that the plan is for Lyttle to start in his role as CEO in mid-April. The board will work to negotiate a contract with him. Weisheyer also said he was impressed with Lyttle’s vision for the airport, including baggage handling, something that Weisheyer shared needed to be upgraded in Terminals A and B.
“He’s clearly a forward-thinking, innovative leader who’s going to help us move our strategic plan into the future… He also understands the mechanics of running an airport at an exceptional level,” Weisheyer said to the Orlando Sentinel.
Other changes are already in the works for the airport. New local restaurants are being brought into the airport to upgrade some of the dining options (which, let’s face it, aren’t great unless you’re flying through Terminal C). The airport also recently updated its logo, branding, and app. A new parking guidance system is also on the way. Terminal C is about to get another big expansion, too.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more Orlando International Airport announcements, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
