When you’re in Disney World, you’re there along with TONS of other families and groups also trying to have a magical vacation.
That means that you’ll come in contact with strangers in lines, around restaurants, or just while you’re walking around, and sometimes you’ll hear them say some…interesting things. Whether that’s because you hear the middle of a conversation or you hear a whole conversation that has you scratching your head, we’ve overheard some interesting things in Magic Kingdom that we feel we have to share.
“Where’s Hogwarts?”
Unfortunately we’ve heard this one more times than we’d care to admit, but there are a lot of families and groups who head to Orlando and don’t really know which characters and rides are in which parks. In other words, they’re not totally sure where the theme park staples are, and sometimes, they all blur together.
This means that we very often hear guests say things like “where’s Hogwarts?” or “Isn’t Harry Potter here too?” while in Magic Kingdom. Sometimes someone in their group quickly reminds them that that’s Universal and that’s where they’re going later in their trip, but it breaks our hearts because we know some of these groups genuinely thought they were buying a ticket for a park where they thought they could experience Harry Potter, and they very likely may be heartbroken (or angry) when they can’t.
Grabbing a Table at Table Service Restaurants
This is another one that pains us because we know it messes up plans so quickly. Multiple times we’ve overheard people saying that they’ll just “go in and grab a table” at a nearby restaurant, but the problem? It’s a table service restaurant.
We also hear guests passing by the stunning restaurants, like Be Our Guest and Cinderella’s Royal Table, and wondering what they are, thinking they’re an attraction they can just walk into. Since these restaurants require reservations that often have to be booked weeks in advance, it can be a major bummer when guests are told they won’t be able to step inside without a reservation.
“Please Stop Licking That.”
The amount of times we’ve heard parents say this, or some variation of “take your mouth off of that” to their young kids and toddlers is astounding, but hey, we get it! Young kids often have no sense of germs or that there are many things (most things, really) that you shouldn’t put your mouth on.
As kids get older, we also hear lots of parents tell their toddlers and young kids to stop climbing on things, to stop running, or to “get back here!” so really, while you may feel relieved that the potential of contracting germs significantly lowers, the risk of injury hightens!
“We Didn’t Travel All This Way to Meet a Dude in a Mouse Costume.”
This one is SO specific and it comes directly from one of our team members who heard this in Magic Kingdom. Yes, the person speaking was telling their family that they didn’t want to go meet Mickey and that it wasn’t worth their time!
Listen, we totally get it if meeting characters isn’t your favorite thing to do. But meeting Mickey is a pretty big staple, as well as other Disney characters, so if you’ve talked with your group before the trip and know that meeting characters is something someone wants to do, it’s important to make time to at least meet ONE for them!
