Disney is known for employing hundreds of thousands of people, but much of that has changed as of late.
The Walt Disney Company has recently been restructured, and unfortunately, that included around 7,000 layoffs across various departments. The last round of layoffs took place in 2023, and now, it sounds like even more job cuts are on the way.
Pixar Animation Studios began laying off around 14% of its workforce on Tuesday, according to Reuters. The layoffs are part of the company’s plan to scale back the development of its original streaming series, per a source close to the situation. We first heard of potential layoffs back in January 2023.
About 175 people will be impacted by the job cuts, which hired additional staff to create additional series as former CEO Bob Chapek made a big push on exclusive content creation to bolster Disney+ subscriptions. The Hollywood Reporter indicates that this is the biggest round of layoffs in Pixar history.
But, Iger has made a point to scale back spending on original streaming content in an effort to make Disney+ profitable. The entertainment division reported an operating profit during the company’s most recent quarter. This means that Pixar will return its focus to feature films that will screen in theaters before becoming available on Disney+.
Our thoughts are with those employees and families impacted by the layoffs. For the latest Disney news and more, stay tuned to DFB.

Man this upsets me me , Disney was in the trash as an animation studio, that’s why they bought Pixar , Pixar saved them to be honest , then the Walt Disney company started to get good, frozen, moana, tangled, and now there laying off Pixar employees , the guy that should go is Mr Iger , him and his crappy IP , I’m from the uk, but I will be glad when he goes , he’s done nothing to reverse mr Chapeks decisions, made him out to be the bad guy. ☹️
