Disney+ has been making a ton of original content since it launched in 2019, but there have been some issues along the way.
We’ve seen very successful shows like The Mandalorian and Loki, but there have also been shows that were supposed to happen but got scrapped because of creative differences, like the Lizzie McGuire reboot. Sadly, another anticipated Disney+ original series is no longer happening at this time.
Disney+’s Beauty and the Beast prequel series about Gaston and LeFou will not be moving forward at this time, according to Deadline. The series was to star Luke Evans and Josh Gad reprising their roles from the 2017 live-action movie as Gaston and LeFou. The eight-episode series was planning to shoot this summer in the U.K.
Deadline says according to sources, the call not to proceed with the show was made for creative reasons, with the scripts not coming together in the direction expected for the offshoot and the creation of original music running behind schedule.
With a number of creative elements up in the air and the shoot’s start already pushed from early spring to summer, a decision was made to put the project on hold. Pushing filming further into the fall was not an option because of talent availability and weather concerns, sources said, according to Deadline.
Josh Gad tweeted out a message today about the series saying in part, “These characters and this story will live on, but sometimes the best intentions & reality collide & nothing can be done.” He continued in a different tweet, saying, “But… we truly hope we get to make it when our schedules allow.”

Luke Evans also tweeted about the news, saying “This is a very sad message for us to tweet. We are devastated. Goodbye, for now, from Gaston and Le fou.”

The show was developed and written by Gad and Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who all were serving as executive producers/co-showrunners. According to Deadline, Disney intends to continue work on the series and eventually make it, but it’s not clear if the current people will remain involved.
