Although Disneyland hasn’t set an official opening date, California Governor Gavin Newsom has stated that there’s “no hurry” to decide the best time to reopen theme parks moving forward.

Despite the uncertainty, Disneyland has still been moving forward with precautions like health and safety signs, limited capacity measures, and more ahead of the parks’ reopening dates. Yet, the uncertainty of when the parks and resorts will be welcoming guests back has caused Disney to make difficult decisions regarding the layoffs of 28,000 Cast Members during this time.

Modified entertainment has started to be put in place in Disney World with Character Cavalcades and the re-opening of For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. However, according to Disney Cast Members and sources from Orange County Register, two of Disneyland’s most popular pieces of entertainment will not be returning when the parks reopen again.

10/11/2020 — Today our show “Mickey and The Magical Map” is officially closed. ?? Thank you to @tracyhalas and @bri_camp for giving me the opportunity to become a Mapmaker and for trusting me with two of the hardest male-tracks in the show. Looking back to that audition, then at 38yrs of age, I would never have imagined making a come-back to the stage. The Magical Map has truly ignited that spark for dance that I once lost and it happened at just the right time. ?? This is definitely not the way we expected our last day to be but I’m so grateful to have shared that stage with this talented cast/crew AND knowing that a handful of them have journeyed with me throughout my 13 years at the @disneyland resort, is a nice way to end this chapter. ? #mapmakerroland #seeyourealsoon #mickeyandthemagicalmap

According to many Cast Members and the American Guild of Variety Artists West, end of run notices have been sent to actors in the Frozen: Live at the Hyperion at Disney California Adventure and Mickey and the Magical Map at Disneyland. Disney has not announced the closure publicly or clarified whether the closure is temporary.

?❄️ My heart hurts. I always have a difficult time saying goodbye to shows even when I know their closing dates, but this is unlike any other show closing. We didn’t know it was coming. We didn’t know our last show would be our last. The most painful part of closing a show is losing the magic that we create in that space for that time with those people. I always grieve the loss of that magic after a show’s closing, but this one is going to linger for quite some time. More than any of the onstage moments, I will miss the backstage & dressing room moments the most. My family, in our home. #frozenliveatthehyperion

AGVA West Disneyland representative Steve Rosen claimed that it’s possible both shows could return. He stated, “An end of run notice means ‘technically’ that the shows are permanently closed, but Disney has sent end of run notices in the past and then subsequently reopened the show.” As more details are announced about California theme parks and Disneyland’s reopening, we’ll keep you updated with everything you need to know.
