We’re hanging out in a reopened Hollywood Studios this morning, and we’re not the only ones.
When we got into the park this morning, we noticed that most folks had two priorities — get a Rise of the Resistance boarding group and get in line for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Rise boarding groups were gone in under one minute at the 10AM release and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is dealing with some serious demand of its own. The queue FILLED UP.
With social distance guidelines, queues tend to take up a lot more space with the same amount of people. That means that when a wait time gets high, those lines get loooooong.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway has held first place for the highest wait times we’ve seen in any of the reopened Disney World parks. Today, it skyrocketed to an over two-hour wait within a few minutes of the park being open. Wowza. With social distancing, such a long wait actually FILLED the queue!
We noticed that Cast Members at the end of the line weren’t allowing any more guests to join the queue. That makes sense considering it already stretched across the Chinese Theater and all throughout the courtyard! No worries, though! Guests were able to join the queue as soon as space was available.
So, if you’re hoping for a whirl on Runaway Railway, don’t panic if that queue fills up! Just because you can’t join the line RIGHT then, doesn’t mean you won’t be able to in a little while! Go grab a coffee or hop in line on another ride and try back. They’ll let you in as soon as the queue area has the space for you!
We have seen that the wait times for Runaway Railway tend to drop a bit after the initial morning rush. So if you aren’t looking for a 2-hour wait, maybe hop on a different attraction first and circle back around to Runaway Railway.

We rode it twice today, once with a 75 minute posted wait time and once 80 minute posted wait time. The actual wait time for us both times was under 30 minutes.
This article has just 2 small examples of why I am not returning to any Disney Parks until this whole Covid nonsense is over.
No why am I spending the kind of money it takes to vacation at WDW only to be very limited on what you can do. No Dining plan, No Fast Pass. Hollywood Studios has become a joke to get into anything. Rise is terrible and has been from the opening. I spent a week there in February and was never able to get a boarding pass. That and how often the ride broke down.
My money can be better spent elsewhere.
Does anyone know if the wait times at HS have gone down sine they’ve been open for a week now? I’m coming August 15th and trying to gauge what to expect.
Becky, yesterday we saw times from 5-90 minutes. Regularly, the longest waits are Runaway Railway and Slinky Dog Dash. Longest wait yesterday was Runaway Railway at 90 minutes at Park opening. Times will vary based on loads of variables, but you can check wait times from home on the My Disney Experience app, so you could track them as your trip gets closer. Hope this helps!
