Disney World’s theme parks will begin reopening July 11th.
Among other health measures, the reopening plan includes the use of a new guest reservations system for use in the theme parks. Disney shared a number of details about the Disney Park Pass theme park reservation system last week, and now the reservation system has officially rolled out online.
The Disney World website features some significant changes today when it comes to the way that guests plan their Disney trip. Next time you head to Disney, you’ll be visiting the Disney Park Pass page to make your theme park reservations. When we first logged in this morning, it appeared that the Disney website was experiencing some MAJOR technical difficulties — potentially due to high demand.
Though the system is LIVE, quite a few readers are still having a hard time accessing the new system. You will likely be greeted with a countdown Space Mountain loading screen (that will possibly never actually count down to zero!), so be prepared to potentially wait for a while.
Reservations are made for a specific date, time, and park. You are limited to one park reservation per day, so it seems that the Park hopper service will not be in use at this time. You can see on the availability calendar that it shows “All Parks Available,” “Some Parks Available,” or “No Parks Available” for each date.
When we did FINALLY get the new page to load (it took us a while and a lot of tries!), we were able to select “Make a Disney Park Pass Reservation” on the top right. We were prompted to log in to our My Disney Experience account (we were met with a much shorter wait to actually log in), then it was time to start making our reservations!
First, you’ll select your party from your list of Family & Friends. Make sure to make profiles for other members of your family before making a reservation! If someone in your party does NOT have a profile, you can add them as a guest.
Once you’ve got your party set up, you’ll be able to see a calendar for you to select your singular date.
Then, it’s on to the park selection page! As a note, if a park is unavailable for the day you are making your reservation, it will be greyed out on this screen.
What better park to start our days back in Disney than Magic Kingdom? The next screen had us selecting a window of time. The window was NOT limited though; at this time there was only one option and it was for the full park hours.
Then, you’re pretty much done. All you have to do is review your choices and confirm. As announced, confirmation requires agreement to the terms and conditions, including Disney’s COVID-19 liability waiver.
Once you confirm, you’re done!
From there, you’ll see a screen that explains how to use your reservation when you arrive at the parks. Make sure to bring your MagicBand or card that’s linked to your My Disney Experience account. Once you feel comfortable with the info, you can either “Make Another Park Pass” or exit to “View My Plans.”
If you choose to make additional Park Passes you’ll repeat the process above, including selecting the date, the park, agreeing to the waiver, and so on. Once we were IN the Park Pass system it was relatively smooth sailing, but it was a chore to get there! Hopefully as the initial rush dies down, this system will be easier to access.
As a reminder, there is a limit on reservations for Annual Passholders without a resort reservation and Passholders without a hotel reservation can’t access the system until June 26th. Note that while we were able to book with our Annual Passes for the length of our hotel stays, we’ve had a number of readers with resort stays AND Annual Passes report they were capped at three! If this happens we recommend you call Disney to get it sorted out.
Though the new system is relatively easy to navigate, it still might bring up some questions. If anything is confusing you, feel free to ask us and we’ll help if we can! If you find that you need direct help from Disney with your reservation, you can call Disney Website Support at (407) 939-4357. Keep in mind though, the lines may be busy so you might get stuck on hold for a while.
Remember that at this time, “To enter a park, both a park reservation and valid admission for the same park on the same date are required.” Annual Passholders without an already-booked Resort Hotel stay can make reservations beginning June 26th. Existing ticket holders can make reservations beginning June 28th.
It certainly will be interesting to see how the use of this new system plays out and if it goes off without a hitch once the parks reopen. Keep an eye on DFB for all the updates about the new reservations!

Do you think the new reservation system is confusing or easy to understand? Tell us in the comments!
We have two trips, one in December and one in September. We got all our days reserved for December (whew) but it will only let us reserve 2 of our 4 days in September. Says we have reached our capacity even though we have days and tickets at the resort still. Anyone else have this happen? It says to call in but we all know how that is working right now. 🙂
I was having trouble, but finally booked 4 days. I realized I need to flip one of my park days. However, I don’t see how to make changes. Thank you!
Been in the holding room for 4 hours now. No luck at all!
And of course mine is one that I can only reserve three days out of 13 days booked (2 separate trips-annual passholder). And I’ve tried calling…LOL. Nothing but busy signals for the past two hours. I am so disheartened. What are the chances there will be anything available in the next few days?
Well, after waiting to get in the site for over an hr to make park reservations I was bumped off. Making me think my Nov trip (rescheduled from May) just isn’t going to happen. I’m really getting disgusted with how Disney is, or more accurately, NOT handling these situations!!!
Got in and was able to reserve for July 2020 (yes, I’m going as soon as they open back up…) Keep trying folks!
I have been waiting since 6 a.m. and am still in this “waiting room”! I’m scared we won’t be able to get reservations!
Dion, we really don’t know how the numbers will shake out once the system runs more smoothly for everyone. Hopefully it’ll work out for you.
Luanne, I haven’t seen any step by step for this. Let me see if the team can do that.
Absolutely ridiculous. For 1 hour and counting, I’ve been looking at a castle with a bouncing cloud. Mind you all I’ve done is click ‘sign in’. I’m waiting for a page to simply sign in. I can’t sit in front of a computer all day. I’m glad my trip isn’t soon. Good luck to everyone else.
Lisa, I wish we knew. DIsney didn’t publicize any limit on the quantity of reservations, but we are definitely getting mixed reports from readers here in the comments. We will put it on our radar to see if we can get a straight answer.
Shelley, I chatted with a CM in reservations yesterday who said YES.
Kirsten, have you tried on a mobile web browser and a laptop? Tried various browsers? Our team had better luck with Chrome, but readers have mentioned Firefox. Honestly, I don’t know what else to tell you. It may really just be a glitch.
I woke up at 3:45 and it took me three hours but was able to get reservations for 8 days, Aug19-26, including our checkout day.
Erin, I don’t know. The only info I’ve heard so far is that the “time” was tied to the Park operating hours. I think you should be good to go for the full Park day, but I honestly don’t know that for sure. You might want to see if you can get confirmation from Disney sometime (but I think the phones are jammed right now, so probably you’ll want to give it a day or two).
Barbara, members of our team who are looking into the calendars and availability say all dates still show availability. I suspect there are glitches in the system, so my only advice is to keep trying.
Melissa, I would definitely recommend waiting because no one needs that stress today. But I have also alerted the team that we need to do a step-by-step on this since it’s brand new. Hopefully we can get that up soon.
Stef, I think so, yup.
Hi, Olivia. Disney doesn’t report its capacity, and they have NOT said at what percentage they’ll be operating when they reopen. Shanghai was 35%, I believe, and speculation has been in the 25-30% range from what I’ve read. But since Disney doesn’t release their info, there’s no way to know for sure.
Trina, I’m not sure. I’ll see if I can find out.
Thanks, Melissa!
I’m going to DisheyWorld! I had to wait almost 2 hours before being able to log in and make my Park Reservations, but I’m in! The process was fast and easy. Now, back to wait in line to make dinner reservations! See you all at the Parks!
Kris, I think Disney IT is going to be ironing out some (very serious and frustrating) wrinkles today, so hopefully you’ll find it more efficient at some point.
I started at 6:00am central time and from start to finish it took about 3 hours. 2 hours of that was just tying to get to the log in screen. Reserving the actual parks only took about 5 minutes. I don’t have AP so it was pretty simple.
I’ve been on since 10 AM and never made a reservation yet I’m still waiting ?
After almost 3 hours of holding on the phone I was able to modify my Caribbean Beach Reservation (for the 3rd time now) for opening day! I then jumped online and waited in “orbit” for another hour, but was able to book all of our park days with no problem! Woo hoo!!
I’ve been listening to Disney hold music for over an hour but I’m afraid to hang up at this point since I’ve literally been trying all means of access since 6:00am…each time I think I’ve made a bit of progress, Stitch appears saying someone ate the page ?
I’m in the reservation system for a second time, hoping to secure park access for the final 2 days of our trip (9/1-9/6). I have been clicking random dates from July through December and I’m getting no availability on every date I’ve checked. Currently holding to chat with a cast member.
We Are annual passholders and after four cancellations by Disney we still have a trip booked in December at The Grand Floridian. We just made park reservations for the five days we are there. I just tried to book reservations for any time after the parks reopen but the site says we’ve reached our limit. Does that mean as annual passholders we won’t be able to go again until next year? I am hoping they can sort this out.
We have an August 2020 trip. We found that our first night in a Disney resort is letting us make reservation for the day of arrival and the next. The rest of our trip will be in Shades of Green, which has always been considered Disney property for FastPass, but doesn’t seem to considered for the new reservation system.
Vivian, I’m so happy it worked out for you!
Its nice that you guys can book. We have tickets and staying in Bonnet Shores and flying in on the 15th of July so I assume we are SOL for getting reservations to accompany the tickets I bought a year ago and still wont be able to even to try to get a reservation to accompany all of my travel accomodations until the 28th .Just a hunch but Im sure Disney didnt have the foresight to block certain amount of admissions for each group, just the people that are staying there. They are even going to allow the people that just booked rooms and dont have tickets purchase new tickets and make reservations before existing ticket holders that dont have reservations. Disney will never get anymore of my money, just booking Universal and staying there instead, and selling my park hopper tickets…which will not be park hopper tickets anymore…. so even more impressed because I havent heard anything about crediting back the cost of that addition
update: Took me 7 hours and was FINALLY able to get the park passes. My dates are September 5th-12th
Hi, Shaun. I hear your frustration. Just wanted to clarify: no one will be able to purchase new tickets or reserve new Resort packages until “later this summer” for 2020 travel. So when you gain access to Disney Park Pass reservations on June 28, you won’t be competing with new 2020 reservations (at least, according to the official word from Disney). Unfortunately we don’t know what Disney’s capacity will be or how they’ve managed their Pass availability, so I can’t help ease your pain on that front. Good luck! I hope something good comes out of this for you.
Matt, I was told by Disney reservations in chat yesterday that Shades is included. Is your Shades reservation/confirmation showing in your Disney account? Is there a way to link tickets to that stay? I don’t think I’ve seen anything from folks with a split stay, but I would hope that wouldn’t impact your ability to make reservations.
DFB Sarah, you might want to double check with Mickey, I talked to them last night and they told me guest with resort accomodations and no tickets will be able to purchase them on the 26th and reserve dates before existing lone ticket holders with no resort accomodations through Disney, even if they are staying IN Disney at Bonnet Shores, no luck required, just a stacked system to get the most money they can through hotel reservations.
It needs to be said that you can access the Park Reservation system through the disneyworld.disney.go.com website. The phone My Disney Experience doesn’t have access.
Shaun, possibly Disney has additional info they didn’t share on their website. Here’s what’s published: “Beginning June 26, 2020, Annual Passholders without a Resort stay can make reservations.” Also: “Later this summer, we will resume sales of 2020 tickets and Disney Resort hotel arrivals, based on availability of park reservations, while we continue to provide Guests with existing tickets and Annual Passholders the opportunity to make park reservations for 2020 dates.” I have no doubt they gave you that info, but it doesn’t jive with the published information from this webpage. I’m sorry this probably isn’t helpful, but I just wanted you to know where I was coming from.
Hi! I could only make reservations for my 3 kids and myself. It won’t let me make them for my husband even though it says the day is available and he’s part of our party. I also had to add everyone separately instead of simply checking the boxes together. It wouldn’t let me. I think because of the Covid waiver we had to sign. Does anyone know why I can’t add my husband. Can you imagine we all can go, but he can’t! We are flying to Florida from another state. So frustrating.
It took nearly SEVEN hours, but we have all parks on the days we wanted them on for our entire stay! Now if they’ll just get dining reservations figured out LOL!
Pam, you might try again today (some readers are saying the site is in better working order now) or give Disney a call if you don’t get it sorted out online. Good luck!
I signed in at approximately 7:25am CT. I only had to wait 4 minutes and got right in. I was able to reserve parks each day for October 7th – October 13th. I thought about trying to change 2 of the park days to another park but I’m not going to push my luck. I’ll just stay with the parks I booked. Does anyone know if we’ll be allowed out of the park, then back in later in the day? We’re staying at Ft. Wilderness and will need to go back to walk our dog and spend some time with her too.
Shelley, you can find it on the phone app but it’s not obvious. Tap on “Learn about the phased reopening of Walt Disney World” then scroll way down on the page and tap “Disney Park Pass System.” After waiting 6 hours this morning to make my reservations, I just tried it again and got right in via the app.
Do you have to get separate park reservations for each party member or just the one that the reservation us under? I noticed on our resort plans it only has one guest posted for the pass and I wasn’t able to make them for the other guest
God Bless DFB Sarah. What a day you’ve had! Things can only go up from here!!
We have two trips planned, one for August 2020 and one for January 2021. August trip we got all of the park reservations, but for some reason for January we aren’t able to make ANY reservations for the parks. We linked up our hotel (Shades of Green) to My Disney Experience, and we are Annual Passholders. I’m not sure why, but it is telling us our pass limit has been reached. Hoping this is fixed, since our wedding is in Disney in January.
So far after many many hours I have managed to make 1 reservation for my family for October and now the website is saying that every park is fully booked. I even went through different months and its saying the parks are fully booked every day of every month…this doesn’t seem right. Well I hope not! Anyone else having/had this issue?
Could only make 3 reservations for our trip iin Sept and no reservations for trip in nov. Am a annual
passholder and have had reservations for a long time for sept and nov. In ft wilderness
Help
Online at 07:01 confirmed park reservations for September visit @ 13:34
What a complete farce. I actually received my advanced park reservation for resort guests at 3:12 pm central time. More resort reservations, than available park reservations at this time. The only help or answer I received was it is a first come first served system. Makes sense, so does ensuring all resort guests have park access for each day of their stay. So far , since booking in January , we’ve lost our dining plan, park hopper option, fireworks, parades, our dining plan, character experiences and two days of our trip that , as of now , we won’t be able to visit a park. I holding out hope that our September 1 -6 stay still happens, but it’s lost all of the Disney magic that makes it worth the price.
