Mayor Buddy Dyer announced in a press conference yesterday that the city of Orlando’s Fourth of July fireworks display is being canceled this year.
A pre-recorded version of Fireworks at the Fountain, the annual show held at Orlando’s Lake Eola Park, will be televised instead.
“Based on everything that’s been happening with COVID-19, the City of Orlando in conjunction with our partner News 6 has decided to hold a virtual Fireworks at the Fountain this year rather than the real thing,” the Mayor said. “It’s a pretty easy decision really, I can’t imagine the CDC guidelines would suggest that we had a gathering of 120 to 150,000 people to watch fireworks in July, which is only about 60 days away I suppose.”
Now, when it comes to Disney fireworks, Shanghai Disneyland reopened on Monday with several modifications and new safety measures in place. We know that while testing was being performed on the park’s fireworks show prior to reopening, at this time no fireworks or parades have resumed in an effort to keep large crowds from gathering.
Currently, Disney World is accepting reservations beginning July 1st. But Thomas Mazloum, Disney World Senior Vice President, has shared that this does not mean that this is when the parks will reopen.
As of right now, Disney World has not shared their specific plans for shows once the parks reopen. They have however stated that, “Upon reopening, theme parks, Disney Resort hotels, restaurants, attractions, experiences, and other offerings may be modified and will be limited in capacity and subject to limited availability or closure, based on direction from health experts and government officials to promote physical distancing.” We will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds.
Disney has shared information regarding a phased reopening, capacity limits, and virtual queues. Read all about that here.
