Lock, Shock, and Barrel might be up to some tricks, but you can get ALL the treats on these Oogie Boogie Bash Trick or Treat Trails!
While dressing up in your favorite character might be your favorite part of Halloween Time in Disneyland, the candy is definitely one of ours. And, these five famous villains are serving up some ghoulish goodies for the swingin’ event in Disney California Adventure.
The Oogie Boogie Bash is terrifying guests with their merch, eats and treats, entertainment, and MORE! But, we were ready to travel down the rabbit hole and through these Trick or Treat Trails to gather as much candy as possible (stay tuned: we had A LOT).
Before we got some hot-and-cold running chills from our inevitable sugar rush, we grabbed our Trick or Treat bags — complete with the gorgeous Frozen 2 poster — maps, and event guides so we weren’t late for our very important date.
Located at the Hyperion Theater Courtyard…
The Mad Hatter had us cackling with his witty (and slightly cooky) commentary!
After asking guests’ names so he knew who to add to his ever-growing list of hat customers…
… He made sure to offer his services to everyone at the party by asking what our head circumferences were.
He specifically told us he was really feeling the color red that night (it’s a good thing red is totally our color).
After collecting our candy (no “Drink Me” Bottles and “Eat Me” Cakes here, friends!), we made our way to our next sinister stop at Stage 17 to visit Dr. Facilier.
Once we entered his voodoo lair, he asked us, “Does anybody here need a change or a transformation perhaps?”
With all the voodoo cards and skulls scattered around, we had a feeling that probably wouldn’t be the best idea. We didn’t feel like getting turned into frogs tbh.
He gave us all the deets about his friends on the other side and how they could make our Halloween a little more spooky.
Before leaving, he made sure to tell us, “When you head to this next trail here, bring me something a little extra!” (Little did he know that we planned on eating our entire bag of candy ourselves.)
Well, well, well… What have we here? Oogie Boogie?? Ooh, we’re really scared!!
At the Disney Animation Courtyard, Oogie Boogie was flipping the switch from silly to scary as he welcomed everyone to his party. ‘Cause after all, it was the Oogie Boogie Bash, y’know.
He assured us that there was enough candy for everyone before giving us the song and dance about Halloween Town, Jack Skellington, and even his bugs.
While the screens around were filled with casino-style slot machines, the really horrifying game was deciding if Oogie Boogie was the most terrifying villain of the night
(He was the host with the most, though!)
Finishing our candy trails off, we stopped at Grizzly Peak Mountain Road to catch the “natural beauty,” the Evil Queen.
While she asserted that “Now, you’ve come to the best part of the party… Getting to see my face!” while reading from her spellbook…
We were a bit more intrigued about what she was cookin’ up in that big cauldron. (Kinda hoping it was a pot of Ghoulish Delight ngl.)
Right next to the Evil Queen was another villainess who haunted us with her horns and flowing cape at Grizzly Peak Airfield.
Maleficent greeted us by calling us her pets before wondering, “Have you come all this way just to gawk at me in all my glory?”
Um, yes, we definitely did because Maleficent looked FABULOUS!! Buuut, we were also there for the candy. (Just don’t tell her that.)
While the Oogie Boogie Bash Trick or Treat Trails were ah-mazing in theory, they were sort of a hit or miss with interaction. You couldn’t stop and chat with characters since you were rushed through the lines, making it difficult to personally interact with the villains.
However, even with all the rushing around, the lines varied in length. Some were very long, and others only took a few minutes. Yet, we still LOVED seeing the characters out in a new way where they were able to actually talk to you, letting you in on all their sinister secrets.
Obviously, our favorite part was the CRAZY amount of candy you get at the end of these trails. Our bags were completely full when we finished off our walks (which was totally fine by us). So, if you’re looking for some treats without having to actually buy anything in the park, you’ll want to go for a stroll on the Trick or Treat Trails for FREE candy!
Just be careful not to eat any poison apples. (;
