Walt Disney World’s Splash Mountain
was unexpectedly closed today (April 29), and it’s not for a reason you’d expect. In fact, the reason might just make you quack up.
It’s ducks. Precisely, a family of ducks has taken up residence on the ride, creating a potentially dangerous situation for the ducks and requiring the ride to close while they’re being relocated.
Guests who were in line when the ride closed were led out of the queue via the ride’s alternative exit — the one you take if you decide not to ride at the last minute.
Evacuated guests were given Fastpasses to ride something else, and the ducks will be moved to a safer location. Speculation is that with the Cinderella Castle moat being drained, ducks may have relocated themselves to other areas of the park. (No ducks were available to confirm this.) 😉

We were there last Thursday, April 25 and It’s a Small World ride was shut down at about 10 p.m. as there were ducks in it as well.
Heidi, it’s a small world for ducks, too!
Check with Donald and Daisy
Does anyone know why it shutdown on March 19th? It closed right after we rode — the water was stopped and there were cast members at the top of the big drop under the Mickey face…just curious.
Yes! The ride closed and we were offered new fast passes Burbank ended up using bilith when the ride reopened!!
Disney ducks are the best! (Two wandered into philharmagic one day, just checking it out!) I wish people wouldn’t feed them though. Poor ducks must be confused with all the construction. First the river of the Americas was drained. Now their moat! They must be getting annoyed now….
This is seriously the best reason for a ride to shut down. You can’t even be upset about that one.
They aren’t the laziest ducks they are lucky ducks! They get to live at Walt Disney World!!
“No ducks were available to confirm this.” Best reporting ever!
Thanks, Julia!
